Our young and enthusiastic Kairosians from Grades 3 to 5 had the opportunity to gain hands-on experience and practical knowledge in fundamental farming practices and animal husbandry during the Farm Basics Workshop.
The activities began with Domestic Animal Petting and Feeding, where students interacted with cows, goats, sheep, and chickens. They learned about the care, feeding, shelter, and health management of domestic animals, developing a deeper understanding of animal welfare.
A major highlight of the workshop was the Paddy Transplantation session. Demonstrations and practical activities taught students about optimal plant spacing, soil preparation, and water management techniques essential for healthy crop growth.
While theoretical learning is important, experiential learning creates a lasting impact. Students also explored various sowing methods, including broadcasting, row planting, and drip irrigation. They practiced sowing different crops and learned about seed depth, spacing, and soil requirements.
In addition, a hands-on training session on Seed Testing introduced students to techniques such as viability testing, germination testing, and seed quality assessment—concepts they had only previously read about in class.
