Laboratory experiments are always fun.
Grade 7 students have taken their scientific research analysis in testing starch one step ahead from their previous experiences.
Earlier testing was limited to food items like boiled rice or potatoes.
Now exploring their hands on learning on a greater level, students tested for the presence of starch directly on a photosynthetic leaf.
The presence of starch in leaves can be tested by the Iodine test.
When we remove chlorophyll from the leaf by boiling it in alcohol and then putting two drops of iodine solution, it shows a colour change to blue indicating the presence of starch.
